Better than expected. If you are unsure what television to buy look no more!!!!!!

Bought this tv last week and it has exceeded my expectations . Freeview and satellite tuners (found all channels on Hotbird @13deg east).I found that setting the picture setting to Natural gives the best result.

This model and size fits my living room hall. Superb picture and sound quality meets my expectation.

First of all, I got to say I am really impressed by this TV. It delivers really good picture especially when u compared it to Philips older generation. Series 4000 in particular. The pictures it delivers is so sharp that even my brother quickly notice it. Sharpness settings at just 2-3 will give u realistic true to life picture. Talking about HD picture of course. The colours were not oversaturated like series 4000 with pretty disgusting greens. The greens on this model is slightly saturated as well but looks great still. Skins tones are natural as well and easy on the eyes. Some might prefer it to be more saturated if u want to be picky. It is of course not perfect. The blacks can be darker. The contrast can be better. HD pictures are nice but I cannot say the same for the SD. Colours look really unnatural to me in SD but I dun expect good pictures in SD anyway. This is a FHD TV. That brings me to another thing that I wished Philips included. Although the TV comes with a built-in digital tuner, u need a indoor digital antenna to receive digital channels!!! Come on, digital antenna is really cheap. I am sure including one will allow consumers to enjoy digital channels right away instead of having us hunting for one. I am sure many didn't know they need a digital antenna and expected the build in tuner to do the job. The menu settings on the TV can be more simple and easier to navigate. Too many buttons to press before I can reach the settings I want. Another thing to note is the remote. The buttons can be bigger. My mum complain about it being too small and she cannot see. I do like how sensitive the remote is though. Although my middle speaker is blocking the supposed sensor, it got no problem picking up the signal from the remote. Y this is a plus because my previous non Philips brand TV had trouble so I really like the fact I can change the channel without rising the remote. Is all this little details that adds to the experience. Now, a little about the design. Simple. I like it but I think is time to do away with glossy plastic and change it to metallic-like plastic. Glossy plastic looks so cheap to me. Although the bezels are super thin, I can't help but feel cheated as there is a few cm space between the bezel and the actual display area. The bezel is thinner is more like an illusion. The actual display area I believe is not 55inch but 54.5 or even 54. I like the stand. Simple and effective unlike the new stands nowadays which make hiding cables harder but the Glossy finish is just asking for scratches. Dun make sense to me. Most of the cons are minor issues. The TV's job is to display beautiful pictures and the Philips 55PFT5509 does that pretty well so I would recommend it to all.

Good picture quality.. even when using normal antenna TV channels (non-HD). Controls are easy to understand though the more advance settings require a bit more tinkering about. Not sure why my Digital Channels are not displaying though (signal strength in "status mode" shows a weak signal. Not sure if its the TV or the wires in my home. I have disconnected the antenna cable from the socket and strangely, the Digital Channel started showing some sort of connection. The main reason I bought this TV was the Ambilight Feature. I have the Hue lights setup in my home and I was really looking forward to connecting it together with my hue lights. However, I failed to realize this was NOT a smart TV and is not even Wifi Enabled. Thus, the TV is not able to connect to my Hue Bridge. :'( It was my own carelessness that I did not do enough research on this.. I just thought that all ambilight TV could connect to the hue system (it just made sense to be able to). But it would be better if Philips had mentioned it on the flyer/brochure, even if it is in small print.

after 3 software updates it still restarts when it wants.. and in the last few days it keeps switching on when it wants.. with all features turned off( all lan and wireles off and wake up features off).. the android is slow.. very slow.. the web browser is very slow, and the apps in google play are just a few.. too little apps.. more apps is always better.. maybe someone will read this and try to fix the problems. I have the TV since 1 month ago... im not happy

Picture quality is lousy, blurry, and is equivalent to my old tv set 10 years ago.... wait ... my old TV 15 years ago has better image quality. The colour and contrast is totally UNNATURAL. Sound quality is down either totally flat or the bass and treble settings are over done. Voice clarity is a mass. You cant hear any sound properly. The Android Hub that comes with the TV is obsolete and useless.
